Abstract : Turbidity (particle-laden gravity) currents are gravity-driven flows induced by the presence of suspended particles, in addition to other processes that may affect the density, such as temperature, salinity or humidity. They occur ubiquitously in nature, from submarine turbidites to powder snow avalanches and volcanic pyroclastic flows, and are almost always sources of potential natural hazards. In this seminar, I will present our understanding, from laboratory experiments, of the relevant processes and quantities controlling their morphodynamics.
