Abstract:
The research group DRACONS (DecaRbonisAtion and CO2 NanoSequestration) consists of 10 scholars (2 professors and 8 PhDs) and various master students that focus their research on 3 main fields: solid thermochemical conversion, hard to abate sectors decarbonisation and intensification of CO2 capture and utilization processes. The first field covers gasification and pyrolysis processes simulation and CFD modeling, starting from residual biomass and solid waste, as well as spent catalyst roasting and regeneration. The second field covers steelmaking and cement production process simulation with retrofitted solutions for their decarbonisation, as well as CFD modeling of single units and alternative greener ways for steel production. The last field covers mainly experimental activities on CO2 capture and use (carbonates production) by developed nanofluids and microfluids with process intensification equipment as well as process simulation and CFD modeling of chemical reactors for CO2 conversion to e-fuels and fine chemicals. 3 of the 8 PhDs are going to start to explore the possible application of Machine Learning AI-subtopic in their research fields.
