Abstract : The characterisation of red blood cell stiffness and its heterogeneity in a blood sample is a key parameter for understanding red blood cell diseases. I will introduce a method to probe the intracellular rheology of red blood cells based on molecular rotors, which are fluorescent probes that are sensitive to viscosity. I will present the relevance of our approach in the context of erythrocyte diseases, in particular sickle cell anaemia. A. Briole, T. Podgorski & B.
