Abstract: Decades of advances in biomechanics have deepened our understanding of the physics that governs living matter, driving rapid advances in technologies designed to promote human health. This area is the research focus in our group at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self Organization. We explore the complexities of cardiac function, including fibrillation prevention, while studying the mechanisms of heart contraction and helping to develop engineered muscle for heart regeneration. At the same time, we study cilia-induced cerebrospinal fluid flow in the ventricular system and its potential functions. Our research aims to integrate multiple disciplines through innovative numerical models to address key challenges in disease understanding and treatment, with the ultimate goal of improving human quality of life.
